Autumn Leaves – Tune of the Month Challenge (November 2024)

I'm thrilled to introduce the first ever tonebase trumpet Tune of the Month Challenge! 🎺🎵
Each month, dive into a new jazz standard with the help of tonebase trumpet lead Ethan Chilton. Together, you’ll learn about melody, harmony, form, approaches to improvisation, and much more. To kick off the November 2024 challenge, we present Autumn Leaves, one of the most popular and approachable standards.
In Ethan’s introductory video, he provides a detailed overview of the tune, the harmony, and shares a chorus of his own improvisation to inspire you. He shares a workbook full of practice exercises to help get you started. Then, you will have the opportunity to post your own improvisations for feedback from Ethan and the community!
No special equipment is needed to get started; just bring your enthusiasm, a working trumpet, some curiosity, and whatever recording tools you have—your journey to improvisation mastery begins here!

Practice the materials provided here, and before the month is through, improvise a few choruses over the jazz standard Autumn Leaves and share it with the community!

Hey everyone! Super excited for the first of these.... I've assembled three videos that will help you as you work through this challenge.
Up first, I introduce the tune and go over all the music theory you'll need to know in order to approach Autumn Leaves (if you have further questions, explore Ben Laude's Music Theory course, or Jeremy Siskind's Basics of Jazz Theory course).

I'm to much of a beginner to post a recording of my self improvising on it, but I learned a lot.
