I’m tabling at ITG. Ask Me Anything!

This week is the ultimate trumpet nerd fest… the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim! I’ve secured a tonebase table in the main room full of exhibitors for what will surely be an exciting week with world-class players, teachers, gearheads, and fans alike. If you’re among those attending, come stop by and let’s meet up in person! If you’re staying behind, I want to use this as a chance to get your trumpet questions answered. Ask me anything about trumpet! If I don’t know the answer, someone in the room with me certainly does, and I’ll track them down for you. I’ll also post daily updates and photos of my ITG experience here for tonebase members exclusively! Happy practicing… 🎶

I'm not at ITG this year but planning to attend ITG next year for the 1st time.  I'm a 70 year old part time player who loves my 50 year old Benge 5X but part of the objective of my trip to ITG will be to demo new horns thinking I might find an even better horn, and also try out some new mouthpieces.

I'm interested to hear your report on the instrument sellers at ITG and how they handle folks that want to demo horns or mouthpieces.  Do they have relatively sound isolated practice booths that attendees can use?  Do you need to sign up with them for times to demo horns?  What is the process and vibe with each instrument/mouthpiece exhibitor?

    Thanks!

Hey Steve, good question. As of this year, ITG has multiple separate rooms each with 3 or 4 exhibitors in them. In my room, there are 2 other instrument manufacturers and 1 mute company. So there's never more than 4 or 5 trumpeters trying horns at a time. It's fairly easy to find a few minutes that are quiet to hear yourself in detail. I'm not aware of a fully sound-isolated option, but they have ITG in different cities each year. I'm sure someone could assist you in finding a more quiet space, too.

As for trying horns, you just come here, pick one up, and play it! Bring your own mouthpiece and try as many as you'd like, no sign-up required. The manufacturers give you a lot of autonomy. Let me know if that answers it!
