Meet & Greet
Hey everyone - this is Martin from tonebase!
As the Head of Live and Community here on tonebase, it's such a pleasure to welcome you to the tonebase community. We would love to get to know you! Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:
- Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
- What are you currently working on?
- What are you hoping to get out of this community?
Iāll go first:
- I was born and raised in Munich, Germany! As youād expect, Bavarian cuisine is heavy and includes many meat and Knƶdel dishes, as well as crops such as beets and potatoes! While this food makes me think back to my childhood, I prefer much more food from my current hometown Düsseldorf, where we have the biggest Japanese community outside of Japan. So Düsseldorf has no shortage of great Ramen shops, Sushi places, and even Teppanyaki grill houses!
- When it comes to trumpet, I am clueless! I have studied classical guitar and sound engineering. Currently, I am in the process of recording a new album with my guitar duo, "TwoFourTwelve". I remember that my grandfather used to have a trumpet which I've tried to play when I was 5 years old, but I had no success getting anything but a buzz out of that horn!
- I am hoping to getting to know and helping all of you achieve your musical and artistic goals. Let's have some fun and get to work!
Now over to you!

Hello. Iām mostly a lurker around these parts, and doing my best to maintain motivation to keep learning on my own. I picked up a $60 trumpet during the 2020 lockdowns and have been plugging away at it little by little ever since⦠by the time Xmas 2020 came around I had taught myself how to play some of the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. In 2022, I performed a ska song live with a rock band, and this year, I performed at a wedding with a band - this really taught me the meaning of the word āenduranceā haha. Tonebase has been an incredible resource for me and Iām really glad to have discovered it!
TBH, Iām actually messaging on this thread to see if someone can help me with figuring out how to start a thread on mobile⦠I canāt seem to find the button to start my own discussion and I have have a question that I feel is rather important to my ability to continue with the instrument. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

My name is Dan. I recently joined tonebase and am looking forward to the information it provides. A long time ago I was part of the US Army band field, but then left the trumpet for about 30 years. I have been back for about two years now as a comeback player. Although born near Chicago, Illinois, I grew up in the United States southwest. I am currently a member of a local community swing band, concert band, brass ensemble, and orchestra. Mostly, I am looking to improve endurance and technique to get back to at least where I was when I was in the Army band field and hopefully beyond. When I was playing before, we didn't have opportunities like this and I am hoping to learn what I can from it. I am looking forward to active participation in tonebase to learn from everybody here.

I'm Boaz from Taiwan. I graduated from Chung Hsing University this year.
My favorite in Taiwan is black pepper bun.
I work as a assistant technician for Taiwan technical mission in Palau.
I have learned trumpet for 7 years since I joined the wind band club in high school.
But I don't improve a lot, struggle with register and articulation.
I hope to expand my range and with clear articulation.

Hi, Iām Dave and Iām celebrating 50 years of playing trumpet this year. I am based in London UK and have just had my regular vegan vindaloo for my local takeaway. I play fairly well but could be better and practice is inconsistent. I play in a couple of bands ( jazz and an Americana band that describes its music as psychedelic country musicā!) and a brass quintet. Plenty of other ad hoc things too. Want to improve my improvisation and become more consistent in the upper (for me thatās at the top of the stave up to high G).
