Mouthpiece Safari
I’m about to buy a Monette mouthpiece. I’ve always wanted try one but none have come across my path at a reasonable price until now.
Mouthpieces will not solve the problems that one might be having with their trumpet journey but a comfortable mouthpiece may make the journey less of a battle against equipment. For me, I’ve been playing long enough to realize that I might benefit from using a mpc that has a larger throat and so that’s the primary reason that I’m making this purchase. That said, I did go on a bit of a safari when I first started and it’s that experience that made me think to start this thread.
So, let’s hear about your mpc journey, where you’ve landed and why! Might be a fun conversation… who knows - maybe Mr Vituzzi will chime in too. haha

I too have gone on the safari. Since purchasing my monette mouthpiece I have put my travels down. It has changed my playing so much. It didnt give me incredible range or raw unleashed trumpet power.
My benefits from playing Monette led to a relaxed style of playing with better posture and control. That led to better pitch then more endurance, which led to better range and consistency all over the horn. It has made trumpet playing a joy again.
So there are my two cents (that was all that was leftover after many mouthpiece purchases) :)

I have tried many mouthpieces over the past 30 years, and accumulated a large collection. In the end I settled for the Monette B4LDS1. Using it now for ten years. It is very comfortable for me. Not that my comment is particularly helpful. The subject is very subjective.

I'm just a beginner on trumpet at age 43 (was a jazz major on sax at UNT 25 years ago), started learning this summer to help my nephew who's doing the same, but I'm going to the Monette factory next week to demo mouthpieces for my 1950 Olds Ambassador! I'll report back if anyone's interested, but I've fallen in love with trumpet and play every day. I just want something that will give me a little more control, and if possible, make me sound like Clifford Brown lol

For my two cents. Back in high school, I played on a Bach 2-1/2C. After joining the US Army Band field, I had switched over to a Schilke 18. Schilke mouthpieces have a smoother inner rim that felt quite comfortable. Then in College I used a Yamaha 17C4. Not as smooth on the inner rim, but my instructor insisted my 18 was too large. Yamaha uses the same system to identify mouthpiece characteristics. About a year and a half ago I moved to Monette Classic Resonance B1-5S4 for my Bb and C1-5MS3 for my C. I've been pretty happy with Monette, even though I didn't make the jump to Unity. It does have a sharper inner rim and the throat on it is huge.
